Council Mergers 2022-23

In the 2022 May elections, councillors were elected to 4 new unitary authorities covering Somerset, North Yorkshire, Cumberland and Westmorland and Furness.

These replace the following:

Somerset County
Mendip
Sedgemoor
Somerset West & Taunton
South Somerset

Cumbria County
Allerdale
Carlisle
Copeland
Barrow in Furness
Eden
South Lakeland

North Yorkshire County
Craven
Hambleton
Harrogate
Richmondshire
Ryedale
Scarborough
Selby

These 20 councils are set to be abolished in 2023. However, since the new councils have greater democratic legitimacy, having just had elections, and because it looks likely that (edit: most of!) the old ones won't be having by-elections, I'm switching already in 2022.
You can still find the old councils under the Abolished link at the top.

City of London
"On second thought, let's not cover the City of London. It is a silly place."
I used to cover this, but it really isn't a council in any meaningful sense, so I dropped it from 2022.
